If ever there was a healing tonic, this would be it! The anti-inflammatory giant of the world, turmeric, makes a big showing here, along with cinnamon, which are both great to ease sore muscles or quell a finicky bloated gut. Ayurvedic mushrooms and herbs, reishi and ashwagandha can also make an appearance (if you have them on hand), which help to detox the liver, and help balance hormones by improving thyroid function and the adrenals. Black pepper helps with the absorption of turmeric, making this concoction a powerhouse if you're feeling under the weather, or just need a boost to get you feeling your best.
Ingredients: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 1/2 cup water 1.5 tsp powdered dry turmeric 2-3 dashes cinnamon 2 dashes black pepper 1 tsp maple syrup or honey 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp ashwagandha (optional) 1/4 tsp reishi powder (optional)
Instructions: Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan, and turn on heat to medium-high. Whisk all ingredients together in the saucepan until fully combined, frothy, and hot (about 3-4 minutes, but keep on longer if it needs to reach your preferred drinking temp).
Pour into your favorite mug, and top with an extra pinch of black pepper.
Makes one serving (one mug-full).
